Recycling of Mixed Plastics

Torridge DC recycling collections now include the acceptance of a wider range of plastics. You can find more details here.

There are still plenty of things that they cannot take. A few of these are listed below and should not be included in your recycling as excessive amounts risk contaminating the whole collection:

  • Plastic bottle or aerosol tops
  • Plastic bags or wrapping
  • Greeting cards or wrapping paper
  • Glass that isn't a bottle!

Did you know that small electrical appliances are accepted? e.g. radios, toasters, cameras, etc.

Parish Council Changes

At the Annual West and East Putford Parish Council Meeting held on 16 May, 2017, Councillor Mrs Lorraine Drake announced she was not standing for re-election. The council expressed their thanks to Councillor Mrs Drake for the work that she had put into the Chairman's role over recent years. Councillor Mrs Pauline Geen was unanimously elected as the new Chairman saying that she saw the Parish Council as a very strong and balanced Committee with a huge depth and breadth of experience and she was looking forward to working with fellow councillors to serve the interests of the local community.

Councillor Allin Bewes was unanimously re-elected as Vice Chairman.

At the same meeting, Ros Crout was co-opted onto the council. Ros moved to Colscott in 2015 and has previously served on two Parish Councils with 4 years as Chair on the most recent.

Common Moor - Update

The Parish Council has been working closely with Natural England and Devon Wildlife Trust to try to find ways of improving the condition of Common Moor. An additional Parish Council meeting was held on 8th August at Bradworthy Methodist Church Schoolroom to discuss possible ways forward. At this meeting the council agreed to adopt a Stewardship Agreement to manage the moor subject to approval of the draft Agreement, clarity on the Clerk's costs and the setting up of an Advisory Group. Ratification was expected at the next meeting to be held on 20th September. Minutes of this meeting can be found here.

Despite the hard work of many involved, at the September meeting it was felt that there was insufficient clarity of what work would be needed or of the financial implications associated with the proposals. Consequently, the Parish Council did not approve signing up to the Stewardship Agreement. However, the council currently feels that it should be possible to proceed once its concerns have been addressed, but work on the moor is likely to now be delayed for 12 months.
